MSI Reproductive Choices – Mali
In 2018, illuminAid partnered with MSI Reproductive Choices to support their family planning and reproductive health programming in Mali.
Mali continues to face significant development challenges, including the ongoing effects of conflict since 2012, economic instability, and periods of reduced rainfall. The country ranks among the lowest on the Human Development Index, and many communities—particularly in rural areas—have limited access to health information and services.
Within this context, MSI Reproductive Choices is working to expand access to family planning and reproductive health education.
As part of this collaboration, illuminAid provided seven cameras, 14 projector kits, and 14 solar-powered charging systems to support outreach in low-resource and off-grid settings. illuminAid also conducted a four-day Video Education Workshop with MSI staff, focused on building practical skills in video production and community screening.
The training emphasized how to create simple, locally relevant video content and how to integrate video into existing community engagement activities. MSI staff developed initial video materials during the workshop and practiced facilitating screenings.
This project represents illuminAid’s first engagement in Mali and our first collaboration with MSI Reproductive Choices. It established a foundation for MSI teams to incorporate video into their ongoing work, with the potential to support more consistent and locally tailored communication with the communities they serve.
