The U.S. Peace Corps - Cameroon

From April 16th to 19th, 2024, illuminAid successfully conducted a Video Education Workshop (VEW) in Cameroon in partnership with the U.S. Peace Corps. This initiative aimed to equip Peace Corps volunteers and their local counterparts with the skills and tools necessary to produce impactful videos for health education, with a particular focus on malaria prevention and vaccine promotion.

During the four-day workshop, participants were provided with training on various aspects of video production, including scripting, filming, and editing. Additionally, illuminAid supplied attendees with cameras, cordless projectors, and recharge kits powered by solar energy, enabling them to create and share educational content even in remote locations with limited access to power.
The VEW was tailored to address the specific health challenges faced by the local community, emphasizing the importance of effective communication in raising awareness and promoting behavioral change. Participants learned how to craft engaging, culturally sensitive videos that could resonate with the local population and facilitate better understanding of critical health topics such as malaria prevention and vaccination.

By the conclusion of the workshop, attendees gained valuable experience in using video as a tool for social behavior change communication (SBCC). The skills and resources acquired during the workshop will empower Peace Corps volunteers and their local counterparts to continue producing educational content for their communities, fostering sustained impact in the region.
The collaboration between illuminAid and the U.S. Peace Corps during this VEW in Cameroon underscores the importance of innovative approaches to health education and the potential for lasting change through video-based interventions.

We are proud to have contributed to this initiative and to have trained dozens of new film makers who will make invaluable contributions on the wellbeing of local Cameroonian communities like Nkolandom.
