Is video part of your current priorities?

NGOs (non government organizations) balance priorities constantly. Funding opportunities appear. Community needs shift. Programs have to adapt without drifting from the mission that defines them. Somewhere in that churn sits a question worth asking on a schedule. How often do you evaluate a new tool that could move work you're already committed to?

Video is one worth evaluating.

Social and behavior change communication video doesn't need its own budget line, its own staff or its own place in the strategic plan. It works inside programs that already exist, carrying practical information in a form that's locally relevant and easy to pass along.

illuminAid and ACDI/VOCA have already run that experiment in Honduras. From 2023 to 2024, illuminAid supported USAID’s Transforming Market Systems Activity and several local partners in using low-cost video production to advance agricultural development goals.

The conclusion was straightforward. Video shot on a mobile phone worked as a practical, inexpensive way to transfer new practices, technologies and knowledge. The project also reinforced how much it matters to bring local producers into the process directly.

That's the opening for any NGO weighing what to take on next. The sector barely changes the math. Agriculture, health, education, climate resilience or another corner of community development, the question stays the same. Could locally produced video help you accomplish what you're already working toward?

The right new project isn't always a new priority. Sometimes it's a better tool for the mission you already have.
