How illuminAid supports community-led video education

The people closest to a challenge often understand it best. They know what their communities need, which messages will resonate and how information should be shared.

illuminAid helps local organizations turn that knowledge into practical educational videos. Support comes in three connected areas: training, equipment and ongoing coaching.

Our hands-on Video Education Workshops teach participants how to plan, film, edit and screen short videos. Participants pick the topics and shape the messages themselves. They also decide how best to reach the people they serve. illuminAid handles the technical instruction that gets those ideas on screen.

Partner organizations also receive video equipment built for rural and resource-limited settings. Kits include a tablet or camera, tripod, microphone, portable projector and solar charging gear. That equipment stays with the organization. Local teams keep producing videos and holding screenings long after the workshop ends.

Support continues past the initial training. illuminAid stays in touch with partners to review footage and troubleshoot equipment. Refresher sessions help teams sharpen their skills as new projects come up.

In Honduras, local practitioners created videos showing coffee farmers how to turn harvest waste into compost. Educators and health partners in Togo produced videos for schoolchildren covering handwashing, nutrition and malaria prevention.

Community members determined the message in each case and led the work. illuminAid's role was to provide the tools and training that carried their expertise further.

Donor support allows more local organizations to create and share educational videos grounded in their own knowledge, language and experience.
