Telling Stories, Sparking Change: illuminAid in Togo

Togo has seen steady economic growth over the past decade, yet many communities still face limited access to basic services and rely heavily on low-productivity agriculture. While cities expand and trade opportunities emerge, the benefits of this growth often fail to reach the most vulnerable.

In March 2025, illuminAid partnered with Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Suisse (VSF-Suisse) and Gestion de l’Environnement et Valorisation des Produits Agropastoraux et Forestiers (GEVAPAF) to host a five-day Video Education Workshop in Sokodé, Togo, as part of the broader initiative “Strengthening Resilience and Socio-Economic Development of Vulnerable Households in Northern Togo” (FRSD-CT). This effort supports rural communities in building resilience and improving livelihoods through sustainable development.

Seventeen participants—including youth, women leaders, and local partners—were trained in grassroots video production, from scripting to editing. Working in small groups led by trained Local Video Trainers, they created short educational films on:
  • Sustainable Farming & Agricultural Economics
  • Community Responses to Climate Change
  • Discouraging Youth Involvement in Extremism
illuminAid provided participants with solar-powered video kits to continue creating and sharing locally relevant messages after the workshop. These tools and skills empower communities to inform, inspire, and mobilize around key development challenges.

In a country where transformation requires more than economic statistics, storytelling becomes a vital tool for connection and change.

Thanks to your support, we’re helping Togolese communities share their voices, shape their futures, and build a more resilient tomorrow—one video at a time.
