Help us end suffering in the world’s most forgotten places.
Consider this: In Burkina, the world’s 8th poorest county, the average child receives only 1.6 years of schooling.
The illuminAid model is based on the fact that information is key to empowering developing nations to lift themselves out of poverty. With barely a pre-school level of education, how can they have the tools and information needed to help their families, stay safe, and get a good job?
Who Needs Our Help?
We want to give people living in poverty the information needed to empower a radical and lasting change in their communities. Here are four people who need our help.
disability in Burkina Faso
Marc wants to help stop the stigma of disability in Burkina Faso.
His own son was born with a disability, and he saw first hand the challenges children with such a disability struggle through. There are no resources whatsoever, either for individual assistance or public education.
child marriage in mozambique
Maria is fighting forced child marriage in Mozambique.
She hopes video can be an effective tool for her NGO to educate rural societies on alternatives to gender-based violence and child marriage.
refugee assistance in bangladesh
Gita is protecting the millions of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.
She and her colleagues fight for clean water, food, and sanitation options for the nearly one million Rohingya people who fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar.
pregnancy survival in haiti
Christine is fighting maternal death by childbirth in Haiti.
The maternal mortality ratio is the highest in Latin America and the Caribbean. Educating women on how to stay healthy during their pregnancies and where to go for safe deliveries can ensure more healthy, live births.
These four stories are just a few of the many deserving people and organizations illuminAid is trying to help. Today, nearly 700 million live in complete and total poverty, living on less than $1.90 a day...or $57/month...$693.50 per year. PER YEAR.
How illuminAid Is Helping
Video shown through a battery-powered projector is an incredible tool to help bring important information to rural communities without electricity and internet.
For example, researchers found that community-based video is a successful tool in reducing gender-based violence in post-conflict societies. Creating the videos and viewing them in public settings increased women’s recognition of their rights, changed family dynamics through improved communication and reduced violence in family units as well as a more equitable treatment of male and female children (Source).
With video, we can help people like Marc, Maria, Gita, and Christine bring information to the world’s most forgotten places, and give them knowledge and hope for the future.
But we need your help.
You can help break the cycle of poverty.
We have a vision that is amazing and exciting! we’re inviting you to invest the resources you’ve been given. YOU can invest in the lives of other people who can’t do it themselves.
What A Donation to illuminAid Can Do
Fund a workshop: $40,000 funds a 4-day workshop to get information into the hands of rural communities. (Trainees from our last workshop are now taking videos to pregnant mothers in the heart of southern Ethiopia)
Donate to one of the projects above: Marc, Maria, Jean, Christine, Gita, and so many others like them are desperate for tools to effectively get information out to rural communities.
